Special exhibition from 9. November, 2024, to 16. März, 2025
Sculptures by Franz Wagner can be seen in many places in the Lower Silesian town of Kłodzko (Glatz) and the surrounding area. The sculptor trained at the famous woodcarving school in Cieplice Śląskie Zdrój at the beginning of the 20th century and created dozens of stone and wooden sculptures during his short life. His workshop was located in Glatz, and his works can be found in churches, chapels, cemeteries and along the streets of the Glatz region.
An exhibition at the Silesian Museum in Görlitz from November 9, 2024 to March 16, 2025 provided information about his work. The exhibition was created at the Museum of the Kłodzko Region (Muzeum Ziemi Kłodzkiej) in cooperation with the Silesian Museum in Görlitz as part of the German-Polish project “Franz Wagner (1887-1942), a master sculptor from Kłodzko”, which was funded by the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation. Following the presentation in Glatz in summer 2024, the exhibition could be seen in a smaller form in Görlitz.
The project brought the artist back into the public eye, as his works are omnipresent in Glatz, but the fact that they were created by Franz Wagner was previously little known. For the first time, a German-Polish monograph was also being published to accompany the exhibition, illustrating and supplementing the current state of research.
